The G.I. doctor was of no help whatsoever. He is not my favorite person right now.
I called his office around 9:30am and gave a detailed message. His office called me at 2:00ish to say that doc was not in office today (he was at the hospital) ... and I explained again about Matthew's gagging & retching (no fever.) Then around 3:45pm an office person called to tell me to call Matthew's pediatrician (huh?), a doctor that knows nothing of any of this. Dr. Baron is the doctor that has been following the retching and called for all of the G.I. testing ... not his pediatrician. Matthew has so many doctors ~ it's so frustrating. I obviously called the G.I. doctor because this is the kind of thing a G.I. doctor takes care of ~ Dr. Baron has known of Matthew's retching for at least 6 weeks and has taken over his care (he has a huge file on Matthew.)
Then, the office person said I should call the doctor that prescribed an antibiotic Matthew is taking (which was his pulmonologist ... who will NOT be able to help me with his retching problem.) I called Dr. Baron's office back explaining that I didn't know if it was the antibiotic causing this retching ... or if it was the change in nutrition formula. Heck, maybe he just had the flu, I don't know.
Well ... long frustrating story shorter ...
I didn't call our pediatrician that can't help us with this ~ he would most likely just refer us back to Dr. Baron! ... I did try calling the pulmonologist, but hung up after waiting on hold. I love our pulmonologist, it's not his fault. I didn't want to pester him with this problem anyway.
Mike and I had a pow wow....
we decided that we will continue his antibiotics for the last couple days ... and discontinue the new formula and go back to the older formula. We will figure it out ourselves I guess. We're not going to doctor hop all over this town.
It appears the G.I. specialists don't want to be bothered with this retching problem.
This reminds me of the previous G.I. doctor we had that didn't listen to us.

Damn doctors. They make you need them then aren't around when you really do need them.
I hope you can figure it out...I'm sure you will...you do know him best and what's been going on.
Send him hugs.
I can't beleive it took them ALL DAY to call you and tell you NOTHING! I would be filing a complaint for that alone. I am so sorry. What a horrible thing to have to wing it on your own because this guy and his staff won't help you out. They didn't even get a back up doctor on the phone for you... no help. That makes me so frustrated for you!
All I can think is he's not concerned about it ... so to him, it's not a big thing...
I hate having so many doctors...
I wish we could just have one...
if we go to the pediatricians office and sit for 2 hours ... he'll just refer us to one of his specialists that we see every month anyway... so we can sit in their office for 2 hours...
I don't like going to any of these doctor offices in fear of exposing him to RSV and other childhood illnesses.
To be fair... I have to say...
it's only been these G.I. docs that have given us headaches...
our cardiologist Dr. Mayman is the greatest... our pulmonologist Dr. Nakamura is the greatest...
our pediatrician Dr. Tenby is also wonderful...
G.I. docs... well.... not my best experiences....
the urologist we've only seen a couple times, my only beef w/ him is that he charges gosh darn $600 a visit to just look at him ... I try not to see him. Dr. Tenby has done a wonderful job taking care of Matthew's kidney reflux.
I didn't want it to seem like I'm complaining about all doctors...
and besides .. my brother in law is a doctor and he's the very best!!
it is ok to be frustrated withthe doctors I think when you see so many you get frustrated especially when your scared and worried about your child and are getting no answers. do you have the doctors email? I have found that some of izzys doctors respond better faster and to emails and then you don't have to go thought the nurses whom sometimes don't relate the massage that your aiming to pass along, lost in translation stuff:) I asked her doctors if they proffered email or phone and each had a preference:) and it has helped with the communication's on this end at least. I hope he is feeling better now ! My brother in law and father in law are doctors and my mother in law was a nurse:) it helps to have medical prof in the family but sometimes you just want to vent right:)
Isn't that just ridiculous! You can't bother the GI doctor for a GI problem!
DOCTORS! UGH!
Matthew has been especially sick this past week.
I was there when Dr. Baron made changes in Matthew's diet last week. Usualy it is when changes are made, problems occur. I am so disappointed with Dr. Baron, because he seemed so concerned about Matthew's growth and his retching. It looks like Dr. Desenburge got to him. They are "both" associates in the same office.
Terri is right on about Matthew's other doctors. They are "wonderful". That goes for my son-in-law, Mitch Phillips, D.O. I would even call them fantastic!!!!!
I agree about the office staff. They are a vital part of any medical practice. They can either make or break a good doctors practice with their attitudes.
I wonder if Dr. Baron's staff even bothered to contact the doctor seeing as he was not in the office on Monday. Perhaps they just waited until late in the day to respond. It certainly is a thought........ They may have become de-sensitized to the parent's fears and frustrations. If so, shame on them!
Love my little under the weather guy, grandma wright
urrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhh!! I'd be so frustrated. =(
