No more kidney reflux!! Wahhhh hoooo!!

Daddy getting Matthew ready for the very uncomfortable VCUG test.

Not so sure about this...... Isn't he just so sweet! Notice no pink this time... the hospitals now have blue and green garb.... usually he is in pink!

Having some fun putting his sunglasses on Daddy.

Passing the time by reading a Leap Frog book.
Actually, the hardest part is all over.... we are just waiting for Dr. Johnson to come in and check out his very full bladder. This is such a yukky test for him... and US, too! We are thrilled to tell you that there is no more kidney reflux!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He shouldn't ever have to do this test again.
Dr. Johnson was sooo nice... he actually looked just like Kevin Bacon!! I could hear "Footloose" playing in my head during the test. No, not really, but he sure looked like KB!! Poor little Matthew... he just wanted to get out of there. We were all happy it was over. The staff over at Sunrise Diagnostic was wonderful... Dr. J, Bruce and Angel. *sidebar: my arms really aren't that huge, this camera added 10 pounds to them.. snort!* He was just "spent" ~ came home and took a two hour nappie.

A one cheek peek.... he's saying, "Let's GO!"

Three and a half years of taking Septra, he's done. One more step to being more healthy.

I'm thrilled that this is the last reflux test. I have some tears seeing what he has to go through (well not all of it I know), but also smiles and happiness at the results. What a good boy he is - even making his Dad laugh playing with his glasses and reading a book with Mommy.

I'm sure there will be many other wonderful results from Dr. Mayman and others. Just looking at Matthew, you can see his progress. He just needed time to catch up from getting a late start.

Terri & Michael can certainly take a lot of credit for the outstanding care and happiness they have brought to Matthew.

God has blessed us for sure.

Love, Mom (Grandma Sue)

Oh my poor little angel. I hate to see him cry. My heart aches when I see that crying little face. I stopped by after work tonight and he was his happy little self by the time I saw him.

I LOVE the butt cheek peek. :)

Thank GOD that chapter is done for you guys and for Matthew. One thing checked off the list! Poor little guy looks so exhausted in the "after" pic. I bet he was glad to have that done.

You're right, he does look like KB!

Grandma Sue was correct when she said these pictures brought tears to her eyes. They brought tears to mine.

What this little boy has endured these past three and a half years would make a grown person cry. Thank God this test can be filed n the "pain I once endured; but no more" folder.

I, agree, that God has something really, really special in store for Matthew. He is a tough little guy and very smart for his age.

I am confident his checkup with Dr. Mayman will go very well. I am excited for Dr. Mayman to see how big and grown up he has gotten.

Everytime I see or am around Matthew, my heart "smiles".

Mike and I were just reading the comments together ...

we were saying that if THIS brought tears to your eyes...
you would have been bawling yesterday... it was pretty awful for him....

I'll be honest... THAT WAS TOUGH yesterday ...
he was so upset and screaming his head off ... both of us had tears welling up in our eyes...
I had to keep wiping his mouth off...

we were trying so hard to be strong and supportive as he was being "tortured".

That tube they put up his little peenie was gosh darn at least 6 inches long... dang!

The staff was so kind to him and really did try to be as gentle as possible... you know they don't like doing that to these little guys either...

I couldn't do it!!

I'm a fellow heart mom and wanted to say hi. I found your blog from Kathy Roller's blog.

I'm so happy to hear Matthew doesn't have kidney reflux anymore. My daughter, Arianna, was born with hydronephrosis on her left kidney that resolved itself. She also had the VCUG, literally was laying on the table with the instruments next to her when the doctor rushed in and said not to cause her ultrasound showed it had cleared up. Talk about a close call.

I'd love to keep up with Matthew's journey. It has helped me so much by talking to other heart moms. We have a blog as well but it's set to private. If you would like to view it all you have to do is email me at nessa1880@yahoo.com and tell me who you are and I'll send you an invite.

Take care,
Vanessa

I am searching for photos for a book I am making my almost 2 and 1/2 yr old daughter about her up and coming VCUG, and stumbled on your blog post! SO happy to hear your little guy is healed...praise God!

We have been blessed so far and are praying for a successful experience. Which, is why I am making a short book with photos for my daughter to help explain what will happen.

God Bless!

Dear Parents of Matthew
We are from Namibia/Africa and have a ten year old daughter with TOF with VDS and MAPCAS, blood pressure flow into the lungs is normal. She has not undergone any surgery yet as the South African pediatric cardiologists felt that her condition is very balanced and they do not do unifocalization in South Africa. Dr.Hanley has now recommended her for unifocalization and we are looking for parents whose children have undergone this procedure with this specific diagnosis with him to find out how their condition and quality of life is after the operation. We would be very grateful if you could send us any link, blog, email address or contact details of other parents you know. We send you lots of strenght for Matthews condition and hope he is doing fine.
Best regards
Sonja and Mike Kibble
