One boy's long road to recovery. Matthew was born two months premature with a rare fourfold heart defect known as Tetralogy of Fallot with Pulmonary Atresia and MAPCA's, and Ventricular Septal Defect. He's had two open heart surgeries and will need additional heart surgeries in the future. To appreciate the absolute miracle of this "3 plus million dollar boy", you'd need to look into the "Archives" beginning after his first 9 hr open heart surgery at Stanford, August 2005.

Once the stair games began, they never ended. It took all of us adults to watch this one little dynamo. Matthew just squealed with glee as he climbs each step. He would pound both hands on each of the "wooden" steps as shown here. From here, he continued on to the "big flight" that is carpeted. Matthewed showed a health respect for the steps when he turned around and looked down. Ugh! He held on to trusting hands and the rail when decending. Smart little fella, he is.
We really enjoy this little boy this Christmas and that is putting it mildly. grandma w
