When Matthew gets fixated on a toy, look out! The other day he decided to be Thomas' conductor. They had an arduous route that steamed through the family room, kitchen, hall way, and into Matthew's room.

2 weeks before he was born ~ we did not know of his defect until he was 4 days old
4lbs 1oz ~ born at 32 weeks

Chest was open for 4 days ~ hence the gauze on top
Still on a ventilator (remained on vent for another few weeks)
Mask would assist him to breathe in and out
Waiting for the surgery team to take him off

So much to be thankful for!
One boy's long road to recovery. Matthew was born two months premature with a rare fourfold heart defect known as Tetralogy of Fallot with Pulmonary Atresia and MAPCA's, and Ventricular Septal Defect. He's had two open heart surgeries and will need additional heart surgeries in the future. To appreciate the absolute miracle of this "3 plus million dollar boy", you'd need to look into the "Archives" beginning after his first 9 hr open heart surgery at Stanford, August 2005.

To view more pictures of Matthew while at Stanford, you can expand the year of 2005 by first clicking on the arrow, then the month. He was at Stanford from July thru September of 2005. Matthew was transferred back to Sunrise hospital where he stayed until the end of October 2005.
His second open heart surgery at Stanford was March 16th of 2006.
We've been told he'll need a conduit change, on average, every three years. We are hoping technology will be on our side.

Matthew is even dressed like an "engineer" for this fun trip with one of his favorite toys. I would love to know what he is thinking as he travels through the house at an uninterrupted speed.
At least we know this Thomas the Train was not from China. Matthew inherited this cute toy from Macklan Riddle. Thanks, Beth, for all your hand-me-downs. As you can see they are appreciated.

What a cute toy. Hand me downs are the best. You know that they have been loved by someone else and then bring joy to the next. Matthew looks like he is enjoying the trip around the house and is definitely dressed for the occasion. He is a joy to watch, if only in pictures. My next trip has got to be soon.

The girls had forgotten about their trains until their cousin from Texas came to visit this week. They pulled them out for him and were having a ball! Thomas! Thomas! The little boys and girls love Thomas!
We are so happy to have had the chance to meet sweet little Matthew. What a little peanut! You guys have done such a great job. He has such a sweetness about him that I just loved. You are a wonderful family.
