2 weeks before he was born ~ we did not know of his defect until he was 4 days old
4lbs 1oz ~ born at 32 weeks

Chest was open for 4 days ~ hence the gauze on top
Still on a ventilator (remained on vent for another few weeks)
Mask would assist him to breathe in and out
Waiting for the surgery team to take him off
And still he smiles...
Happy day ~ Look no oxygen!
So much to be thankful for!
One boy's long road to recovery. Matthew was born two months premature with a rare fourfold heart defect known as Tetralogy of Fallot with Pulmonary Atresia and MAPCA's, and Ventricular Septal Defect. He's had two open heart surgeries and will need additional heart surgeries in the future. To appreciate the absolute miracle of this "3 plus million dollar boy", you'd need to look into the "Archives" beginning after his first 9 hr open heart surgery at Stanford, August 2005.

To view more pictures of Matthew while at Stanford, you can expand the year of 2005 by first clicking on the arrow, then the month. He was at Stanford from July thru September of 2005. Matthew was transferred back to Sunrise hospital where he stayed until the end of October 2005.
His second open heart surgery at Stanford was March 16th of 2006.
We've been told he'll need a conduit change, on average, every three years. We are hoping technology will be on our side.
He's our amazing little soldier boy. Our miracle.

Precious!!! I can't decide if he looks more like his mama or his daddy! I'm still not believing Terri is 46. Isn't that what you told me???? No way. Won't believe it.

This is such a fun age watching our little man putting all his observations into action. Matthew loves Quixa and just squeals when he sees her. Quixa seems to know that her buddy is just a baby and knows instinctively when to split. LOL Love you my little dog catcher, grandma wright
I'm not joining in on the "age" discussion for obvious reasons.......
Terri has always been beautiful, no matter what her age.

I am sure he likes it MUCH better than any of the toys you spent mass quantities of money on for Christmas! At least, that is how it always works here at the Mayhem!
PS: Mr. Mayhem does not like to be refered to as "neutered"....he prefers "testicularly challenged" (hee-hee)
This is a wonderful slide show. I'll have to say you amaze me once again Michael. I only wish I could say I taught you everything you know.
Quixa is absolutely wonderful with Matthew and is so well behaved. He is so cute trying to get the collar back on. I am so hooked on this blog. I sneak a peak at work but once I see all the darling videos, slide shows, pictures, etc. I forget how much I need to do. So, I reluctantly hit the X buttom and go back to work. Thank God I have a computer at home to enjoy them once again.

P.S. Terri is the most beautiful person inside and out and every day I see how wonderful Matthew is doing, I appreciate her more. Of course, Daddy deserves so much credit also, but he already knows how much I love him.
