What a day this was and we were only here for "Pre-op". We arrived at Lucille Packard Children's Hospital (LPCH) at 7am this morning to check in. Then we interviewed with Dr. Hanley's Physicians Assistant, Melanie. She broke the news to us that Matthew may not get a bovine artery (from a steer)to replace his existing "Homograph". He may have to get more human cadaver tissue which means only two years between this and his next surgery. We were so disappointed. We had been told that Matthew may get a bovine artery which could last him nearly 7 years. After that sobering news Matthew got a chest X-ray, an EKG, and an Echocardiogram before lunch. Then this afternoon he was put under sedation while the doctors gave his lungs and heart a thorough CT scan and drew blood. We left around 5pm and have to be back early tomorrow morning for his surgery.

A friend here in Las Vegas sent me a link to your blog. After reading through your little boy's story I can see how lucky he is to have such a wonderful family around him. I admire your strength and ability to just keep moving forward. What a sweet little face your son has and what a little fighter. Your family is in our prayers.
I've been thinking of the three of you since this morning - it's a big day for all of you and I'm praying for you.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Dr. Hanley and his team are the best of the best! Be strong Lil' guy, you're a fighter like our son Michael. I know for your parents it's as if time is standing still once they have handed you into their care. The waiting and wondering is hard until they see and hold you again. This is such an emotional rollercoaster ride. I can't express in words how much I feel for all of you as a family. I can truly relate having experienced this also. You're in His care. Sending many prayers your way!

Matthew was born (8 weeks premature) May 10th, 2005..
He just turned 10 months old :-)
Amazing that he's had two open heart surgeries in 10 months...
