The difference in a month
One month ago today Matthew had his surgery. Today he is still healing and still improving. His settings on the BiPAP machine were turned down again today. Then, after an afternoon X-ray, Dr. Swati came in and announced that he was looking good and they were going down on his settings again. Dr. Kache was a bit more sobering when I talked with her. She said he was doing well and that he might start getting 30 minute breaks from the BiPAP in a couple days. She did allude to the possibility of him staying on the mask for two weeks. Yikes!

Hey guys
My name is Josh Carter. You don't know me, but I am a good friend of John and Julie Taylor. In fact John and I went to the police academy together. He told me about you guys and Matthew's incredible story. Little Matthew's story reminds us so much of a journey my wife Kristen and I went through not to long ago. The week John and I graduated from the academy our little 4-month-old Elijah went home to be with the Lord. His story sound a lot like Matthews in many ways. Elijah was born with major heart complications i.e. Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, ASD & VSD holes in the heart, Coarctation of the aorta and more. He had a total of three open heart surgeries, not to mention all of the heart caths., ART and PIC lines and being on the vent for 4 months. When we read you update our hearts were joined in our understanding and empathy because we remember the trials and heartache of him battling infections and "lung strength" and "when do we get to go home?" We also know what it means to battle a secondary issue as well...Elijah developed Pulmonary Hypertension as a result of him being on the vent for so long. In fact, his heart mostly healed of all its issues and it was the lungs that were the problem. Well, it was because of the PH that he developed pneumonia and just couldn’t fight it off. Needless to say, Elijah never came home from the hospital but he is home with Jesus! We write and tell you of our story not to give you something else to worry about, but to encourage you and let you know there are people out there who know a little about what you are going through and that you are not definitely alone! We would love get to know you and talk to you guys more about Matthew and how we can pass along his story to people we know that would be praying for him and you. Please call us anytime or write to us.

Meanwhile, we will be praying for you and your family. Remember there is strength and hope in the Lord and he knows every detail and has a wonderful plan for Matthew. We can’t wait to see what happens!
With Love

PS: We cannot believe how much Matthew looks like Elijah...go to his web site, they could be brothers :)
